2012 Traditional Jamboree at Royal Oak Archers, Oakland Michigan

Last year was my first year going to traditional shoots and selling my handmade longbows and arrows.  I took my family out to Royal Oak Archers, in Oakland Michigan and we had a real nice time.

I sold a few bows and met some real cool guys.   The club is top rate and sits on some beautiful land in Oakland County.  The club members were great.  They made us feel like part of their family, especially since it was our first time there.   We went back many more times over the summer for other shoots and had a real nice experience each time.

This is a picture of me at the 2012 Traditional Jamboree Shoot.

Tomahawk Archers Public Shoot

Tomahawk Archers Public Shoot

Today, I went out to Tomahawk Archers in Temperance, Michigan.  I always have a great time out there.  That is a great archery club.  The people are real nice and treat me well.   It’s a great group out there that run the club.  First rate!  It’s located in southern Michigan and very close to the border of Ohio.

I bring all my longbows and arrows and set up a table to sell my handmade goods.  I bring my teenage grandson and have a wonderful time.  They have a guy at the club who hand paints the targets and they are a work of art.   Almost too nice to shoot at.   Each month they have a different theme for their targets.   They even have a “dinosaur” shoot for the kids.   It’s a great place for the whole family.

The club has public shoots every month.  I take my daughter, grandson and granddaughter in the summer and we all have a great day out there.  My daughter and granddaughter like to shoot and my grandson helps me to sell my merchandise.

Today was good day…I sold a longbow and took an order for 2 dozen custom arrows.   Time to get back to the workshop and get started on those arrows.

My personal hand painted bow and quiver

Hickory Stick 2012 028 Hickory Stick 2012 024This is my personal bow and quiver that I hand painted last year.  I had a lot of fun painting them.  I let my imagination go and it came out really nice.   The colors look great and have an American Indian look about them.  Image

Handmade Cedar Arrows

This is another group of handmade arrows that I have made.  I am very proud of how they all turned out.   I really enjoy making them in my workshop.

They are made from cedar (POC).   Some are wild turkey feathers and all are hand painted.   I sell them individually for $8 each or I can hand make them by the dozen to a shooter’s specs.    I’ve had a lot of people enjoy shooting them.   Individual Arrows for sale 003 Individual Arrows for sale 004 Individual Arrows for sale 005

Different views of my new handmade bow.

Different views of my new handmade bow.

Today I just finished another handmade bow.  I sure love to make these longbows.  This one really came out nice.  I used brown leather dye on the bamboo and it came out just beautiful.  I’m real happy with the way I painted the hand rest.  The green paint looks great against the deep color of the stained bamboo.  I finished it off with three coats of Birch wood Casey True Oil.

Another fine longbow, if I don’t say so myself!  Image,

This longbow is 64 inches long, right handed, 45 lbs @ 28″ draw and comes with a one year warranty.
